Therapies: Acupuncture, Chinese Herbal Medicine, Tui Na Massage
Alex holds a Bachelor's degree in Acupuncture, a Masters degree in Chinese Herbal Medicine and a diploma in Tui Na massage. He has studied at the London College of Traditional Acupuncture, Middlesex University, Westminster University, with a traditional practitioner in Taiwan and various Chinese practitioners in London. He is a member of the British Acupuncture Council and the Register of Chinese Herbal Medicine, organisations which maintain high standards of professionalism and safety.
Alex became interested in Chinese culture before he developed an interest in its traditional medicine. While studying Chinese in Taiwan he met a traditional doctor with great skill who opened his eyes to the potential of Chinese medicine. Translating for numerous patients who wanted to seek treatment from this doctor, he gradually became convinced that Chinese medicine had a great effectiveness in a wide range of ailments, including many that did not seem to be dealt with well from a biomedical approach.
This started a journey of deeper exploration into Chinese culture and medicine. After completing three and a half years of Mandarin, Taiwanese and Ancient Chinese study in Taiwan, he returned to the UK to study Acupuncture, Chinese Herbal Medicine and Tui Na Massage, the three main therapies of Chinese Medicine.
Through study with great Chinese doctors, he has come to realize that the idea that Chinese and Western medicine need be in conflict is not correct. Contrary to what many suppose, Traditional Chinese Medicine is rigorous, systematic and scientific in its original form. The cutting edge of current scientific discovery is validating what the ancients in China were trying to articulate. It is Alex's inspiration to be part of the generation of practitioners that engages in the process of integration and development that truly brings all medicine into the 21st Century.
In August 2011 he set up Hampstead Heath Acupuncture with his colleague and previous classmate, Odette Aguirre, with the intention of bringing first rate practice of Chinese Medicine to NW3.
Specialist areas of treatment
Alex has a significant experience in dealing with various pain conditions. Currently he is conducting Masters level research into male Chronic Pelvic Pain Syndrome/ Chronic Prostatitis.
I have for a number of years, suffered from damaged vertebrae in my neck. This caused me both pain and restriction of movement to my right shoulder and arm.
I was recommended to come to the acupuncture clinic when conventional treatment ceased to have much effect.
I wasn't entirely optimistic, but got to the stage of trying anything that might help.
Now after 6 sessions of acupuncture, massage and cupping, I have regained the full range of movement in my shoulder and arm and no longer experience that nagging constant pain. I have also been given simple techniques to use at home to support the treatment in the clinic. It has proved to be a success for me and I can highly recommend the Hampstead Heath Acupuncture Clinic to anyone seeking an alternative way of dealing with health issues.
